The first leg of your walk takes you to Gairlochy, following the beautiful banks of the Caledonian Canal. In Gairlochy, take a moment to rest and perhaps enjoy a snack by the canal. From there, you will leave the trail and continue your journey towards your overnight in Spean Bridge, which is another 4 miles (6.4 km) away. This section features gentle terrain, ideal for a leisurely walk. As you approach Spean Bridge, you'll be treated to stunning vistas of the Nevis Range.
Upon arriving in Spean Bridge, you can find various accommodation options for your overnight stay, allowing you to relax and recharge for the next day's adventure. Be sure to explore the area, with attractions like the Commando Memorial nearby, offering a poignant tribute to WWII soldiers. After a restful night in Spean Bridge, you’ll set out for a delightful day of walking from Spean Bridge to North Laggan. The day will take you back through Gairlochy, where you can enjoy the serene views of the Caledonian Canal and the surrounding countryside.
As you leave Gairlochy, the path continues along the canal towpath, offering an easy and picturesque stroll.
You’ll cross the impressive Gairlochy Lock and gain beautiful views of the waterway, hills, and woodlands. This section of the walk is relatively flat and perfect for soaking in the captivating Highland scenery.
As you approach North Laggan, the trail transitions into more rural landscapes with charming farms and lush greenery. North Laggan itself is a peaceful stop where you can enjoy the tranquility of the Highlands. This journey not only showcases the beauty of the Great Glen Way but also provides a wonderful sense of connection to the natural environment. Upon arriving in North Laggan, take some time to relax and enjoy the serene atmosphere before planning for the next leg of your journey.

Embarking on your journey from North Laggan to Fort Augustus, today's section of the trail presents a delightful mix of natural beauty and picturesque landscapes as you continue your adventure through the Scottish Highlands.
As you set out, you'll meander through serene woodlands and open farmland, enjoying the tranquil atmosphere of this rural setting. Keep an eye out for the diverse wildlife that inhabits the area, including various bird species and perhaps even deer. The trail meanders alongside the Caledonian Canal, offering glimpses of the shimmering waters and opportunities to witness boats navigating the locks.
As you approach Fort Augustus, the path becomes more developed, leading you into this charming village located at the southern end of Loch Ness. Fort Augustus is renowned for its impressive staircase of locks and striking views of the loch. Upon arrival, take time to explore the quaint shops, cafes, and the local history of the area. On you approach to Inverness, the trail transitions to more urban settings, leading you along the banks of the River Ness. The approach to Inverness is marked by its vibrant atmosphere, with views of the historic Inverness Castle overlooking the river. Once in the city, take time to explore its rich history, charming shops, and cafes.

This day can be split by doing a transfer to Loch Laide and walking back to Drumnadrochit, return the following morning and continue to Inverness - enquire for this option at time of booking.
